Crafting Winning Subject Lines with AI
Kennedy shared a project he started back in May—training a GPT model to generate compelling email subject lines. Unlike the usual formulaic subject lines, this AI-driven approach focuses on creating curiosity and emotional engagement rather than just being benefit-driven.
Kennedy's process involves split-testing subject lines: he writes one, and the GPT model generates another. The test then determines which subject line drives more clicks (not just opens, as clicks are a more valuable metric). Over time, the AI has learned from these results and is now outperforming Kennedy’s own subject lines 85% of the time.
This process highlights a critical aspect of AI in email marketing—teaching AI to achieve specific outcomes by feeding it real-world data and allowing it to analyse and optimse results continuously.
AI as a Starting Point for Content Creation
Fifi shares how she uses AI to overcome writer’s block by generating initial drafts based on bullet points she provides. While she doesn’t rely on AI to write entire emails, it helps her get past the daunting blank page, allowing her to refine and personalise the content further.
Kennedy adds a tip for training AI to better match your voice: feed it a series of past emails to help it learn your writing style, which can make its output more aligned with your brand’s tone.
Leveraging AI for Data Analysis and Research
One big thing to realise when using AI is its superpower in analysing large sets of data. Whether it’s understanding trends in past subject lines, call-to-actions, or even analysing competitors’ ads, AI can quickly process and identify patterns that would take a human much longer to decipher.
For instance, you can feed AI hundreds of successful subject lines and ask it to determine what makes them work. Or, use AI to sift through customer data to find trends that can inform your email campaigns.

Enhancing Storytelling with AI

TIP: Find new ways of taking your typical subject line, and rewrite it to open up more curiosity by saying it a slightly different way.
